[img:turkish_flag_434959.thumbnail.jpg| ]Istanbul, Turkey --- (METERING.COM) --- January 24, 2008 – The Istanbul Water Distribution Authority has signed a contract with meter manufacturer Elektromed for the supply, installation and commissioning of 100,000 integrated smart card prepayment (pay-as-you-go) water meters. Key account water consumers in Istanbul are already familiar with these meters, as almost 30,000 have already been supplied by Elektromed.
The 100 AMR meters have been installed in buildings where electric consumption is high, following a decision by KESC to focus on technology as a means of improving revenue collection. If the trials are successful the utility will consider rolling out the system to all customers – in particular larger commercial and industrial customers with high consumption.
