Ampy Metering has been awarded the coveted Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade 2004- an honour that recognises the company’s achievement of growing export sales by nearly 350% over three years, from £5 million in 2001 to almost £17 million in 2003. Export sales now represent close to 50% of the company’s turnover.
Ampy designs and manufactures intelligent electricity meters which are being adopted worldwide because of their ability to combat fraud and streamline meter reading.
The Queen’s Awards are the UK’s top awards for business performance and acknowledge the capabilities of both management and workforce. Ampy has recently designed and put into production several innovative new products, some of which are now being installed across whole countries.
The company has had notable success in Italy, where it was chosen to design meters as part of a €2 billion project to upgrade 27 million homes. Ampy meters enable Italian utility Enel to read meters remotely, use energy more efficiently and provide more services to households.
Sales have also grown in the Middle East, Africa, Southern and Eastern Europe, as well as in South America, Australia and China, where Ampy provides bespoke metering solutions in addition to supplying its standard range of products. Ampy has also set up new distribution channels and joint ventures across 22 countries.
