Metering communication technologies – workshop announcement: African Utility Week

Do you know your PLC from your GSM?  Do the benefits, differences and cost implications between RF, 3G and ZigBee leave you confused?  Want to know how to choose the best communications platform for your metering installation?

African Utility Week will be running a workshop on 13th May 2013 on the pros and cons of various communication technologies for metering installations and this is your opportunity to ensure you get to grips with the various  communications options you could implement in your metering infrastructure.

As more and more utilities in Africa consider the implementation of smart meters within their utility infrastructure programmes, questions are being raised as to the best communications technologies to employ for utility to meter and meter to meter communications.  This workshop will take into account the following:

  • Types of meter communications technology
  • Pros and cons of each technology
  • Cost implications

This workshop forms part of the greater programme on offer at African Utility Week, which takes place from 13 – 15 May 2013, with site visits on 16th May.  African Utility Week is the leading conference and exhibition for the African power sector, with a multiple track programme focussing on the following key sectors:

  • Metering
  • Generation
  • Transmission and Distribution/Smart Grids
  • Economics and finance
  • Large Power Users
  • Clean Power
