New technology center for Europe

General Electric (GE) has opened its new European Global Research Centre, near Munich in Germany. The state-of-the-art 10,000m² facility is the latest addition to GE’s $4 billion worldwide technology development effort. Previous investment includes an upgrading of the company’s R&D headquarters in New York, USA and a research facility in Shanghai, China.

By 2005 the research centre will be staffed by 150 scientists and engineers, who will conduct advanced research into enabling technologies for future products and services. They will work closely with the GE businesses to define the future technological needs of the company’s European customers.
