Ed’s note: We’ll always have Paris

This week my Ed’s note is short and expresses, not an opinion but, why YOU need to be at European Utility Week next week.

In keeping with the changes and evolving nature of our sector, European Utility Week has grown to encompass more than ever before. The addition of POWERGEN Europe makes it a true end-to-end experience. But I’ll let someone who truly knows explain more…

“With 2020 just around the corner and decarbonisation targets set through to 2050, the sector now has essentially one unified event for all levels of the energy transition,”

European Utility Week and POWERGEN Europe director Paddy Young.

But it’s more than just the holistic approach to energy that is important – it’s the extensive and diverse three-day Summit programme, the free-to-attend Hub sessions and the over 850 exhibitors on a bustling exhibition floor that make the experience. Visitors and attendees have the opportunity to see the latest technologies and solutions first hand, exchange ideas, learn from the experts and share knowledge – and that, more than anything,  is the true value of this event. The sharing, learning and debating are part of the machinery that drives new ideas and directions and cannot be experienced in an office – this has to be done on-site and in-person.

Part of the in-person experience is checking in at the Initiate! hub as well – understanding how start-ups and young talent see the sector and taking a leaf out of their book when it comes to understanding how innovation and an ‘out-the-box’ mindset can change the dynamic of your business and this industry.

Of course, a key part of the experience is also coming to say hello to the Smart Energy International Team at the Clarion Energy studio. We love meeting our readers and understanding how you see the industry changing, expanding or even staying the same. Come over and say ‘Hi!’ – you can find us at stand E110.

This event, which has been in existence for well on 20 years, is without a doubt the leading power and utility event in Europe. Some 15 years ago I attended my first what was then Metering Europe and was amazed at the size of the gathering of metering focussed professionals from all around the continent. Today, that same event has more than doubled, encompasses the entire utility and power sector – from generation to behind the meter – and it only gets better with every iteration.

My final word: Miss it – and you miss out!

Wishing you a week in which all your travel arrangements to Paris come together.
