For the sixth consecutive year Utilities United Against Scams (UUAS) is celebrating Utility Scam Awareness Day. That day is on the 17th of November and aims to raise awareness of the suspicious behaviours and the evolving tactics that scammers use to target customers.
Utilities United Against Scams is a consortium of more than 150 US and Canadian electric, water, and natural gas utilities (and their respective trade associations). UUAS is dedicated to combating impostor utility scams by providing a forum for utilities and trade associations to share data and best practices, in addition to working together to implement initiatives to inform and protect customers.
Now, that is happening across the Atlantic in the US. In Europe, although we do have associations and although utilities do take the matter seriously, we do not yet feel the need to raise awareness apparently. And I don’t mean awareness within the utilities only, I mean awareness amongst the general public. With initiatives like the Utility Scam Awareness Day.
