Italian energy company Eni has established a new company, in partnership with Angolan state oil company Sonangol to develop renewable energy projects in the country.

Eni said the new company, Solenova is consistent with the Angola's energy strategy, which includes bringing 800MW of clean energy capacity installed by 2025, with the main thrust directed to utility-scale solar in the country.

The country’s first project will be a 50MW solar farm in the south of the country.

The move forms part of Eni’s broader plans to install 1.6GW of wind and solar capacity at over 60 global brown and greenfield sites by 2022, with a target of 5GW by 2025, and have committed €1.4 billion to projects for the 2019-2022 period.
