Centrica acquires GB independent supplier

Centrica has acquired the Sheffield-based energy supplier Nabuh Energy, which will become part of the British Gas Energy business.

Nabuh Energy is a small supplier providing electricity and gas services to 36,000 customers under the tag-line ‘Low-cost, hassle-free prepayment energy’.

The company entered the market in July 2018 with a focus on tariffs for prepayment meters and the aim to offer a better deal to such users with cheaper tariffs. In addition, fixed-rate tariffs have been offered with payment by direct debit.

“We are delighted to welcome both Nabuh Energy’s customers and our new colleagues. This deal is part of our strategy to focus on and invest in our core markets,” says Chris O’Shea, Group Chief Executive of Centrica.

“This is a really exciting time for British Gas as we seek to return the business to growth and put customers at the heart of everything we do, by offering a competitive and innovative service.”

The acquisition follows the earlier acquisitions of the 114,600 customer base of the supplier Robin Hood Energy in September 2020 and of Simplicity Energy with its 53,000 residential customers in January.

British Gas has assured that customers’ gas and electricity supplies will continue without interruption and prices and terms will remain the same.

British Gas is Britain’s largest energy supplier serving approximately 6.9 million households.
