Arizona Public Service has selected Sunverge to implement its new residential energy storage programme.

The utility is adopting the firm's intelligent energy storage system and distributed energy resources operations platform under its Storage Rewards initiative.

The programme provides customers with a $500 participation fee and equips them with a battery storage system.

The aim is to ensure grid reliability and to maintain affordable consumer bills by helping them to shift heavy energy use during peak to off-peak periods.

The storage systems will provide the utility with grid services, through consumers directing excess energy into the main grid for stability during times when demand is high.

The platform automatically manages power flows behind the meter to optimise the use of grid power, battery storage, solar self-generation, and smart appliances in the home.

Marc Romito, director of customer technology at Arizona Public Service, said: “Our customers today want more than just reliable power; they want cutting edge technology and they want to know how to manage their energy use to best fit their lifestyle,”

Martin Milani, CEO at Sunverge, said: “We have had the privilege of working with APS on other Distributed Energy Storage programs and are excited to continue our partnership with this new program.

“APS is one of the leaders in renewable energy and is leveraging new technologies to build the grid of the future."
