Pending investigation forces closure of EV chargers

Electrify America has shut down some of its electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

The shutdown will allow an investigation to be conducted on the safety of high-powered charging cables used on its EV chargers.

The high-powered liquid-cooled cables are supplied by HUBER+SHINER.

HUBER+SHINER has recommended Electrify America and its customers worldwide to close its EV chargers employing the 150 kW – 350kW cables.

Giovanni Palazzo, CEO of Electrify America, said: “The safety of our customers is our highest priority.

“Out of an abundance of caution, Electrify America is shutting down all of our stations that use the HUBER+SUHNER high-powered cables until we can confirm that they can be operated safely.

“We are confident that HUBER+SUHNER will investigate and resolve this issue as quickly as possible.”

Electrify America will ensure its EV chargers rather use the 50kW CCS chargers, all CHAdeMO connectors and L2 chargers opened.
