French utility Réseau de Transport d’Électricité (RTE) has selected Prysmian Group to develop two submarine and land export power cable systems to ensure more wind energy is integrated into the main grid.
The network will connect a 500MW offshore wind energy farm between the islands of Yeu and Noirmoutier to the French mainland power grid.
The €150 million ($167 million) deal includes the installation of a submarine cable route of around 27km and an underground cable route of around 30km.
Prysmian will be responsible for the supply and installation of the power cables in partnership with Cable Enterprises, while the French utility will maintain and operate the 225KV links.
Delivery and commissioning are scheduled for 2023, conditional upon the receipt of the notice to proceed expected by March 2020, with preliminary studies expected for the overall project by June 2020.
The project is expected to help France accelerate the energy transition.
