Australian utility Horizon Power has selected PXiSE Energy Solutions to improve management of its distributed energy resources.

PXISE Energy will install it’s Active Control Technology as the distributed energy resources management system (DERMS) in Western Australia.

The system will help Horizon Power to manage distributed energy resources (DERs) in the future across its approximately 888,000-square-mile service area.

The technology will run on a standard Microsoft Windows platform and use embedded OSIsoft software and synchro-phasor data to enhance, analyse and respond to grid data from DERs.

The development will enable the utility to enhance the efficiency and reliability of its electric grid by expanding its renewable energy portfolio.

Patrick T. Lee, president of PXiSE Energy Solutions. “Our DERMS solution will give Horizon Power the tools it needs to manage the grid as more customers install distributed solar and storage resources.”

The state-owned utility has more than 48,000 customers located in regional and remote communities.

Terry Mohn, general manager of Advanced Microgrid Developments for Horizon Power, added: “With increasing customer demand for behind the meter energy resources, we will need innovative technology to enable us to efficiently manage the resources while maintaining our highest safety and reliability standards.”
