Navigant Research has issued a new report to help utilities enhance residential aggregation of distributed resources.
The study helps energy providers to develop new customer centric-solutions to optimise distributed resources at the home level, while contributing towards grid reliability.
According to the report:
- Utility-consumer relationships are crucial as the industry transitions from an environment where value is derived from energy generation and transmission to where value lies in the services on top of energy sales
- Technology developments are causing a fast drop in the cost of behind-the-meter electricity generation
- Increased innovation is causing a decrease in interaction with the grid by consumers with onsite generators and little variability in seasonal weather patterns
The report recommends manufacturers make consumer choice a priority and be ready to disrupt the value chain with new and timely solutions to realise the full potential market value.
Roberto Rodriguez Labastida, senior research analyst with Navigant Research, said: “To remain competitive in an Energy Cloud future, utilities and energy retailers need to enhance what consumers can achieve with their own DER assets.”
