Enel X has signed a deal with EV charging network operators Smatrics and Ionity to allow its customers to charge their vehicles outside of Italy, in Europe.

Enel X users will utilise the X Recharge app to access a network comprising 6,000 EV charging points, of which 800 are outside of Italy.

The number is expected to increase to 1.600 charging points by the end of 2020.

The charging stations are located in Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK.

Enel customers will access 350KW charging points, able to “fill up” current and next generation electric vehicles seven times faster than the average charging point.

Using the app, consumers will be able to access the location of the EV chargers, the available power, the type of connector, real-time availability, access methods and prices.

The deals are part of European Commission- funded initiative European EVA+Electric Vehicles Arteries Project.

Enel X and Ionity will develop additional 20 high-power charging stations in Italy. With Smatrics, Enel will develop additional 200 charging stations of 50 kW each in Italy and Austria on long-distance extra-urban routes.

Francesco Venturini, Head of Enel X, said: “Interoperability is a strategic feature for the development of electric mobility and offers our customers, with the X Recharge app, a complete, seamless service experience also through the networks of other charging infrastructure operators, without territorial limits. Consequently, looking ahead, we plan to expand the interoperable network through our agreements with IONITY and SMATRICS as well as opening up to new partnerships with other charging network operators.”
