Ex F1 champ asks for Tesla test at Nurburgring – Elon agrees

Nico Rosberg, 2016 Formula One champion, and a self-proclaimed fan of electric vehicles, has offered to take Tesla’s Model S around one of the world’s most-loved, and dangerous, racing tracks, that being the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany, in what may be a great move for publicising EV technology.

Musk had already committed to pit the Model S against the track’s legendary corners and set a competitive time at the circuit, some say to set a good time against Porsche’s long-awaited, all-electric Taycan. The offer Rosberg, already an investor in the increasingly-popular Formula E series, is the son of Formula One legend Keke Rosberg, and has already spent a decade in the premier motorsport class, winning the championship in 2016.

Rosberg is no stranger to the track, having piloted the course during publicity events for the Mercedes team at the ‘Ring’, and is capable of more than just posting a good time – he aced the Williams team’s engineering aptitude test early in career.

The partnership is a promising one, matching one of the world’s most popular brands with a highly-visible, highly-proficient supporter of the technology. We’ll publish the video here as soon as it’s available.
