EDP Bandeirante to regularize illegal connections


São Paulo, Brazil — (METERING.COM) — July 30, 2009 – Brazilian electricity distributor EDP Bandeirante is to regularize the electricity supply to 15,000 illegal connections over the next year, as part of the company’s community energy program.

Launched in 2006, the program will also invest R$14 million (US$7.4 million) in energy efficiency actions for 30,000 households.

Actions will be focused on social, economic and environmental aspects, and will include education on energy efficiency to enable customers to better manage their energy use, as well as the supply of energy efficient lighting.

In addition in order to improve the quality and security of supply, the company will instal internal kits (switches, sockets, etc.) and will undertake actions to modernize the distribution network.

The program has already been started in some of the municipalities in EDP Bandeirante’s service area and will be extended to others, including the municipalities of Caraguatatuba and São Sebastião.
