Toho Gas will use over 1,000 environmental variables to predict the deterioration of its gas distribution pipelines. The project is claimed to be the world’s first to use the technology within the gas industry.
Data compiled from the utility’s pipeline will be integrated with Fracta’s environmental database to develop a new algorithm which will be used to predict the lifespan of the gas distribution system.
A proof of concept is expected to be completed by end of 2019.
The aim is to increase the efficiency of the utility’s capital expenditure to replace old piping and increase services to over 2.4 million households served by the utility.
