In Russia, the Department of Information Technologies of Moscow will establish a 5G Demo Center to pilot new smart city and emerging technologies.
The center will be made available for both Russian and foreign startups, research institutions and companies from different industries
Alexander Gorbatko, deputy head of the IT Department at the Moscow Urban Forum, said: “This space will provide businesses with the opportunity to test new technology solutions and assess the merits of industrial application. The latest urban 5G technological solutions will also be tested at the demo-center.
We are interested in finding joint business models for players in various markets – industry, medicine, transport, and other sectors of strategic importance to the city.”
The demo center is said will operate on principles of vendor neutrality, openness towards business, technology integrity and data security and compatibility.
The center is expected to help Russia to achieve its goal of developing four 5G zones by the end of 2019 – of which each zone will be operated by the country’s telcos
The project is also part of efforts by the ITR Department of Moscow to digitise services for efficient operations of government departments.
To date, the department has digitised 166 services in over 60 industries including smart water management.
