Start-ups within the energy sector face specific opportunities and challenges that can either help or hinder their progress.
European Utility Week’s Initiate programme is a fresh way of supporting start-ups, growing young talent and connecting experienced players with those entering the game.

Initiate! at DistribuTECH
For the first time in history, DistribuTECH – the largest annual event for the transmission and distribution industry – hosted 12 start-ups in New Orleans and gave them each a chance to pitch their companies to a panel of judges.
According to Jennifer Runyon, those twelve start-ups represent the future of the grid, showcasing technology that utilities can use today to better manage their grids and customers. From DERMS to IoT to microgrids, they offered software and hardware to help improve the utility industry.
