A utility-founded trade association, MEA, has through its programme, Energetic Women, awarded CenterPoint Energy for its role in empowering women within the natural gas and electric industry.
The utility has received the 2018 Excellence in Women’s Development Award for active efforts in achieving diversity and inclusion success.
Efforts implemented by CenterPoint include active talent management that supports women in non-traditional roles such as engineering and operations.
In 2012, the energy provider launched and continued operating the Women in Leadership (WIL) Advisory Council to increase female leadership development.
WIL Advisory Council went on to develop the ‘Pipeline to Purposeful Leadership’, an initiative that educates women and boosts their confidence in their pursuit of leadership and management positions.
Beverley Melchisedech, VP of operations support at CenterPoint Energy, said: “The WIL Council has created a safe space for diversity conversations.
“What started as a Council for directors and above has evolved to include managers, with the next phase planned to include supervisors. Our goal is to share as much information as we can to support our future leaders.”
