EEPPM awards prepayment electricity meter contract

] Medellín, Colombia --- (METERING.COM) --- July 3, 2007 - Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EEPPM) has awarded a contract to Actaris for the supply of 15,000 prepayment meters.

The order comprises both integrated (type ACE9000 ISP) and split meters (type ACE9000 SSP) based on the STS standard, and they will be supplied over the next year, starting July 2007.

Full competition in Europe’s energy market

] Brussels, Belgium --- (METERING.COM) --- June 29, 2007 – On 1 July Europe’s energy market will be fully liberalized, and everyone in the region will be able to choose his energy supplier – but according to Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes there are still some barriers to circumvent.

In a recent speech to the General Assembly of the International Federation of Industrial Energy Consumers, Commissioner Kroes said the European Commission's assessment is that competition is not functioning properly in electricity and gas markets. She listed the three main structural reasons for this:

The center was established as the result of a partnership between Chatham-Kent Energy, Corix Utilities and Terasen Gas.

Chatham, ON, Canada --- (METERING.COM) --- June 29, 2007 – A new Corix measurement technology center, accredited by Measurement Canada and located at the offices of Ontario utility Chatham-Kent Energy (CKE), will encourage the deployment of smart meters in the province. The center was established as the result of a partnership between Chatham-Kent Energy, Corix Utilities and Terasen Gas.

Ray Payne, president and CEO of Chatham-Kent Energy, expects the center to lead to additional growth for the utility, particularly as regards the deployment of smart meters. CKE is one of the leaders in the province in the deployment of a fully-compliant smart meter solution, and will benefit from Corix’s experience in the areas of metering and measurement, both in the US and in Canada.

The new centre will be able to deal with a variety of metering technologies, and will be able to support different vendors and municipal electric distribution companies across the province in achieving their smart meter deployment plans.

European Utility Awards 2006

The winners of the European Utility Awards 2006 were announced at the official award ceremony during Metering, Billing/CRM Europe 2006.

They are: Business Performance Award: EDF Energy, UK, for its ‘READ. REDUCE.REWARD’ scheme, which is aimed at encouraging consumers to read their own meters and to reduce energy consumption, with rewards offered for doing so.

Customer Excellence Award: Sutton and East Surrey Water, UK, for its introduction of an integrated speech-enabled solution to provide a ‘virtual’ call centre through which customers can pay their bills and conduct other transactions.

CenterPoint Energy selects OpenWay AMI to support intelligent grid

CenterPoint Energy, energy provider to more than three million electric and natural gas customers in the Houston area, is to deploy Itron’s advanced metering and communication technology, OpenWay™, to support its intelligent grid technology, which was deployed on a limited basis earlier this year.

CenterPoint Energy’s deployment of the technology began in November with the installation of 10,000 new OpenWay CENTRON® solid-state electricity meters in selected areas of Houston. In conjunction with Itron and IBM, the provider is investigating five core applications – meter reading, remote connections and disconnections, outage detection, load management and voltage threshold monitoring.

Romania joins REEEP

Romania has become the 33rd country to join the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP).

By joining the partnership Romania intends to contribute to the development of regional policies by participating in initiatives across Eastern Europe and the Western Balkans.

The country also looks forward to accelerating the dissemination of renewable energy projects as a means of improving energy security, while lowering greenhouse gas emissions. The Romanian Agency for Energy Conservation (ARCE) will act as the representative for REEEP.

Oracle acquires SPL WorldGroup

Global enterprise software company Oracle, has announced that it has acquired SPL WorldGroup, a provider of revenue and operations management software for the utilities industry and tax management software for government organisations.
