US utility integrates services with Nest and Google smart home package

US integrated energy services firm Reliant has partnered with Google and Nest to offer combined smart electricity and home services to consumers in Texas.

The partnership allows consumers to adopt new and innovative solutions to help them improve their energy management and reduce costs.

Reliant and its parent firm NRG Energy provides electricity to 3 million customers in 10 states.

Customers of Reliant will have access to smart home devices as part of their electricity plan.

In addition, a new set of Reliant voice commands using Google Assistant will work seamlessly across all Google and Nest products to provide a connected home experience.

Reliant is the first energy provider to offer its customers Nest products when following Nest launching in 2010, according to a statement.

The deal with Google and Nest is Reliant’s biggest innovation partnership to date.

“Long before digital assistants, voice commands and mobile apps changed the way customers manage their energy, Reliant was focused on innovative ways to meet the needs of our customers and their continually evolving digital lifestyles. This effort is the latest step in that journey,” said Scott Burns, head of innovation and customer experience at Reliant.
