Thames Water has announced plans to cut 350 support staff jobs as part of a major efficiency drive, and will remove a further 300 roles, a total of 650 positions made redundant.
The proposed redundancies mostly affect support staff in human relations and management, will see approximately 5% of the utilities total staff complement reduced.
Proposals by the company also include the removal of another 300 jobs by not filling vacancies, and streamlining contractor roles.
The company recently announced the shock immediate resignation of CEO Steve Roberston in May 2019. The announcement comes just days after his last day in office, which was June 30th.
A spokesman for Thames Water said of the announcement: “Today we informed our employees of the potential loss of around 350 roles.
“We will seek to minimise redundancies wherever possible, through redeployment and voluntary redundancy for affected groups and by agreement.
“This is clearly very difficult news for employees directly affected and we will do as much as we can to support them, including providing practical help to find new roles.
“We remain totally focused on managing our cost base. The money we spend belongs to our customers and investors – and we are committed to delivering on our commitments to them and all of our stakeholders.”
