UK businesses have the opportunity to apply for between £100,000 and £500,000 in funding to develop technology components capable of increasing the efficiency of local power systems.
The funding, part of a programme by Innovate UK, totals £3 million and will be awarded to technologies that deliver cleaner, cheaper energy services, and contribute to more resilient communities.
Projects undertaken by businesses larger than SMME-level must be collaborative. Projects must commence by April 2020, and end by March 2022.
Applications in areas such as the monitoring of gas and electricity hardware and software; the improvement of integration between national and local power grid, and heat network efficiency are amongst the technologies supported.
Other applications include the real-time, multi-site generation optimisation for multiple operators and aggregators, inter-seasonal heating and cold storage, and optimising the integration of electricity, heat and transport and electricity.
The competition opens on 22nd July and applications close on 9thOctober 2019.
