The utility will receive the award at the Itron Utility Week which is currently happening through the 18th of October in Marco Island, Florida.
The award recognises Con Edison’s deployment of natural gas detectors.
The units were deployed in partnership with New Cosmos using Itron’s Milli™ 5 battery-optimized wireless communications module.
Itron applauds Con Edison for driving excellence in innovation and taking advantage of Itron’s partner enablement programmes to deliver value from concept to consumer.
Using the natural gas detectors, Con Edison is able to detect natural gas leaks and quickly alert emergency crews to improve safety.
Itron’s Milli 5 modules allow the devices to seamlessly integrate with Con Edison’s existing network infrastructure from Itron, which the utility uses to manage 3.6 million electric meters and 1.2 million gas modules.
As of September 2019, the utility has responded to over 100 notifications.
