The award recognises the solution provider’s recently launched Intelis gas meter.
IoT Breakthrough is an independent organisation recognising leaders in the IoT sectors such as smart city, home automation, and autonomous vehicles and in the industrial and enterprise IoT industries.
This year, IoT Breakthrough received more than 3,500 nominations in various categories.
Commenting on the development, James Johnson, managing director at IoT Breakthrough. “The Intelis gas meter from Itron is an innovative solution that delivers a profound increase in public safety while also delivering other compelling operational benefits for utilities and consumers…”
The Intelis gas meter is a compact ultrasonic device that enables utilities to shift from the standard one-way gas distribution network into an interactive two-way energy network.
The smart meter technology enables utilities to access data which they can use to optimise the operations of their grid network in near-real time, optimising consumer energy usage.
The smart meter enhances safety with integrated features such as high flow alarms, high temperature sensing and integrated remote temporary shut off, according to Itron.
The smart meter is intelligent, can sense and stop excess flow automatically to avoid potentially dangerous conditions such as explosion. The meter also features an embedded air detection sensor, which alerts utilities of potential meter tampering or removal, improving safety, theft detection and revenue protection.
