Illinois’ largest gas distributor selects communications tech provider

Nicor Gas, provider of services to 2.2 million gas consumers in the US state of Illinois, has selected Sensus to modernise its metering system.

Patrick Whiteside, vice president of Business Solutions at Nicor Gas, said: “The Meter Modernisation program is one of several investments we’re making to modernise and improve our natural gas infrastructure.

“Sensus’ advanced metering technology will help us ensure every customer’s energy needs are met safely now and well into the future.”

Nicor Gas is deploying the FlexNet Communication network and radio modules to provide connectivity for gas meters.

The communications system will be deployed throughout this year as part of efforts to develop a resilient, secure and robust network.

Colin Sabol, senior vice president of Measurement and Control Systems at Xylem, owners of Sensus, added that the deployment will help the utility to improve its customer engagement, workplace safety and daily operations through access to real time data.
