Redwood City, CA, U.S.A. --- (METERING.COM) --- October 19, 2006 – eMeter, a provider of software and services for utilities with fixed network AMR systems, and EnergyICT, a provider of large-scale interval meter data collection, processing and management solutions, have partnered to develop EnergyIP™ – a new product that offers meter data management, AMI business process management, and system integration capabilities.
San Francisco, CA, U.S.A. --- (METERING.COM) --- October 18, 2006 – SPL WorldGroup, a utility software vendor, and Cellnet Technology, Inc., a fixed network data communications provider, have announced a partnership aimed at providing utility clients with an end-to-end solution for advanced metering.
Toronto, Ontario --- (METERING.COM) --- October 17, 2006 – Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited’s Summer Challenge program is starting to reflect positive results. Based on meter readings reviewed to date, 31,876 Torontonians ‘took the summer challenge’ and used less electricity compared to a typical summer; 18,235 of the utility’s customers achieved their 10 per cent benchmark.
Chasseneuil du Poitou Cedex, France --- (METERING.COM) --- October 17, 2006 – Actaris, a designer and manufacturer of meters and systems for the electricity, gas, water and heat markets, used EFD.Lab computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software from Flomerics to design innovative gas meters.
San Francisco, California, October 17, 2006 - Utility software vendor SPL WorldGroup and fixed network data communications provider Cellnet Technology, Inc.(R) (Cellnet) today announced a partnership aimed at providing utility clients with an end-to-end solution for advanced metering.
"Cellnet enables the reality of advanced infrastructure by bringing utility customers the best available technology for data communications systems and automation solutions," said Mak Tarnoff, Cellnet's Director of Product Marketing. "Such networks also provide two-way communication between utility and customer to measure and communicate consumption, to turn meters on and off, to check for outages and voltage problems, and to gather data to make electrical and pipeline grids work more efficiently."

The European Smart Metering Alliance (ESMA) has been launched to advance and support the development of smart metering in Europe.
Comprising companies and organisations interested in smart metering, the ESMA is intended to bring together all stakeholders to achieve consensus on smart metering, to promote innovation in smart metering, and to maximise the energy savings to be derived from smart metering.

Smart metering is a worthwhile goal to continue to pursue, delegates to Metering, Billing/CRM Europe have agreed, with 86% supporting this view and only 14% opposing it.
Moreover, more than half believed that smart metering is in an emerging adoption phase, with rapid innovation and changing technology. And 83% envisaged that there would be widespread rollout of smart metering in their region – i.e. to more than 50% of residential customers within the next ten years with as many as 11% expecting this target to be reached as soon as the next two years.
Liberty Lake, WA, U.S.A. --- (METERING.COM) --- October 13, 2006 – Itron Inc. has announced the completion of benchmark performance testing of Itron Enterprise Edition (IEE) meter data management software on HP Integrity servers and StorageWorks EVA8000 disk arrays.
The conclusion of extensive testing verifies IEE’s ability to support the installations of advanced metering systems exceeding 10 million meters.
The benchmark testing was conducted in HP’s Marlboro test facility over several months, using a realistic data set of 130 million hourly meter readings per day, equivalent to a utility of over 10 million electric and gas meters. The tests were conducted using processing windows and business rules based on Itron’s experience with the ‘day-in-the-life’ processing of the meter-to-cash workflow. This number of readings represents the largest scale benchmarking test in the meter data management industry to date.
The results of the testing established:
Murmansk, Russia --- (METERING.COM) --- October 13, 2006 – Earlier this year Eka Systems Inc. completed the installation of its AMI mesh network system for Lenenergo in St. Petersburg. Now the company has announced the deployment of a residential wireless mesh network AMR system of 11,000 meters in Murmansk.
Paris, France --- (METERING.COM) --- October 11, 2006 – Sagem Communication, a manufacturer of mobile and broadband communication products, and meter manufacturer Iskraemeco have announced that the first interoperable AMR static meters are now available. This offers utilities the ability to roll out an open AMR system where Sagem and Iskra meters will communicate without any software adaptation.
