US city in Utah upgrades automated meter reading system

In the US state of Utah, Eagle Mountain city has selected Sensus to upgrade its automated meter reading system.

The city is deploying Sensus’ FlexNet EasyLink Mobile Communications solution, IPERL residential and OMNI commercial smart water meters at full scale to improve acquisition and processing of meter data.

The communications solution comprises SmartPoint communication modules and encoder receiver transmitters (ERTS).

Data is gathered through a single mobile reading device that collects data from both FlexNet SmartPoints and ERTS simultaneously.

Eagle Mountain Public Utilities manager Mack Straw, said: “We wanted to install a new communications system that would help us enhance efficiency and accuracy.

“To support our expanding customer base, we decided it was time to upgrade and bring our meters together under one solution.

“Our technicians could get reads from a long range and track meter status with a detailed map view across each division to ensure reliability.”

The solution is expected to help the utility to reduce time and costs spent in the meter reading process and reduce non-revenues through quick identification of leaks.

“We can now complete work in one day that used to take two days,” reiterated Straw.
