Conlog opens its first offices in Lagos.
Conlog (Pty) Ltd is a global organisation with over 50 years of electronics and prepaid electricity metering solutions. We pride ourselves in the quality of our products, particularly the durability and reliability of our meters in the harshest of climates. We have over 12 million meters installed worldwide, with less than 1% return rate. Over the years, 70% of our business has been in the Sub-Sahara Africa regions; 20% in South Africa, and 10% in the rest of the world. We pride ourselves on being an African technology innovation company actively contributing to African infrastructure developments.
As such, Nigerian utilities and their suppliers have been our clients for more than ten years, resulting in more than 750,000 Conlog meters being installed in various locations in Nigeria. In making our business decisions, we always look beyond the commercials into a higher purpose of action. Our company purpose statement is “Enriching Lives by Connecting People and Resources”.
Earlier this year, Conlog Pty Ltd registered a local entity and opening its first offices in Ikeja, Lagos Nigeria. As part of the MAP program Conlog Metering Solutions Nigeria has been supporting the local Meter Asset Providers (MAPs) and parent company Consolidated Infrastructure Group (CIG) as a Metering Service Provider (MSP), connecting Nigerian consumers with electricity resources.
What is a MAP?
A Meter Asset Provider (MAP) is a Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) approved meter vendor whose responsibility is to fund, procure and install meters on behalf of an electricity distribution company. Under the MAP Regulation, they are also expected to maintain and ensure the integrity of the meters. There are significant benefits of the MAP program, such as the elimination of estimated billing, as you pay for the exact energy consumed and smart meters allow you to manage your consumption better. Other benefits of MAP are that you pay for your electricity online and via different payment channels, and you will no longer get disconnections due to none-payment of bills.
Conlog Meter Solutions Nigeria Limited (CMSN), as a Metering Service Provider (MSP), currently has over 200 employees (permanent and contractual) and still looking to increase the number as the demand grows. Conlog has been assigned the responsibility of metering homes in Akowonjo and Abule-Egba districts over the next three years.
One of the main objectives for entering the Nigeria market is to assist in the MAP program by increasing manufacturing capability in Nigeria. Thus, we plan to produce at least 30% of our meters in Nigeria. As part of demonstrating our commitment to Nigeria, we already commenced with the project of establishing our last mile assembly plant in Ikeja. This plant is intended to expand and contribute to the growth of the supply chain sector for the benefit of the industry.
Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa, with a vibrant and aggressively growing number one economy, made up of a resilient people. Conlog aims to contribute to this growth and working together with other MAPs in ensuring the stability and prosperity of the Nigerian electricity sector.
