American water utility signs Badger Meter for AMI rollout


According to a company statement, Badger Meter will supply American Water, with a complete portfolio of residential and commercial water meters, meter reading and analytics technologies.

Richard A. Meeusen, president of Badger Meter commented: “Our broad and deep product portfolio will enable American Water to select the meters and meter reading technology that meets their specific needs.”

The three-year contract will include Badger Meter supplying the utility with various AMI applications including the BEACON Advanced Metering Analytics (AMA) and cloud-based managed system EyeOnWater.

American Water will also install Badger Meter’s E-Series Ultrasonic meters, Recordall disc meters and consumer engagement application, ORION.

Badger Meter will help us to continue to deliver safe, clean, reliable and affordable water and water services to customers across our footprint while providing exceptional customer service.”

Badger Meter reported that the solution combines the BEACON AMA software suite with ORION communication technologies, to allow automatic synchronization of meter reading field assignments whenever an Internet connection is established.

The flow measurement manufacturer said it believes the new solution’s functionalities will allow for faster viewing of water usage data, increasing utilities’ real-time decision-making abilities.

Commenting on the launch of the product, Bill Teichmiller, CEO of EJ Water Cooperative in Dieterich, Illinois, said: “BEACON Mobile has decreased our 4,000 miles a month drive time with two crews and has reduced customer service calls, while providing valuable data to the end user, our water customer.”
