Texas city of Pearland upgrades water network with AMI and leak sensors

The US city of Pearland in Texas state has selected Itron to modernise its water distribution network.

Itron will provide the city with its OpenWay Riva IoT solution for water plus leak sensors to reduce water loss and improve the distribution of water to 120,000 consumers.

The solution comprises Itron’s software-as-a-service analytics platform to help Pearland improve operational awareness, through real-time data acquisition and analysis.

The city will replace its existing automated meter reading system with advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) and related software.

The AMI will include 37,000 water communication modules to increase metering accuracy, improve customer service and provide better water consumption data. The AMI system is expected to help consumers improve their water efficiency.

Itron will install the smart meters, leak sensors, routers and provide project management.

Robert Upton, director of engineering and capital projects for the City of Pearland, said the project “…will also enable us to adopt smart city technology in the future.”
