Vietnam Electricity recognised for data management at Asian Utility Week

Vietnam Electricity and its subsidiary Southern Power Corporation have been recognised for modernising grid networks and their consumer meter billing management system, during Asian Utility Week.

The two utilities received the Best Digital Transformation award for deploying a meter data management system in partnership with Landis+Gyr.

The award recognises the most innovative digital project and solution across digital metering, business intelligence and or IoT platforms that have transformed utilities.

The awarded was handed over in Bangkok, Thailand.

Deployed two years ago, the meter data management system is helping Vietnam Electricity and its five subsidiaries to centrally process data quickly and efficiently for applications including billing and outage management.

For instance, the system is helping Southern Power Corporation to process data from one million meters, making it the largest in Vietnam to date, with 20 million load profile reads and 250 million instantaneous reads being recorded each day.

Vietnamese utilities are claiming the technology is helping to increase productivity, improve the quality of its customer service and decrease operational costs.

Jamal Cheema, vice president of Landis+Gyr SEA said,:“This project demonstrates how a meter data management system can provide the foundation for two-way communications and the efficient, real-time management of data so that timely and pro-active action can be taken with respect to both grid and customer management.”

EVNSPC plans to add applications such as customer service, load forecast and load research systems to the meter data management system.
