The UAE’s Federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa) called upon Itron to provide 90,000 smart ultrasonic water meters to upgrade its water system.FEWA is the water and electricity provider to the Northern Emirates in the UAE and expects that the new ultrasonic water meters will improve water efficiency and reduce water losses.
According to a statement, Itron said that its static metering technology is designed to adapt to the harsh environment and intermittent water supply in the Middle East, accurately measuring consumption even when air or debris is in the pipe.
The highly meters enable Fewa and its customers to better account for water usage and limit waste. With no moving parts, Itron’s meters allow for protection against unplanned maintenance costs. The devices also help improve customer service through more accurate customer billing, it added. [UAE surpasses US and Europe in electricity and water efficiency]
