An inside source claims that while no negotiations have been finalized, it is expected the contract will be signed within the next two weeks. The program rollout will take place over a three to four year period. The value of the metering portion of the program is estimated at some $450 million.

Landis+Gyr announced a significant milestone with the production on 6 February 2008 of the one millionth ZMD/ZMG meter. To mark this event the one millionth meter was manufactured in a golden coloured case and is being placed into the Landis+Gyr meter museum at the company’s headquarters in Zug, Switzerland.
The ZMD and ZMG meters, designed for industrial applications, have one of the most stringent specification guidelines in the metering industry, with a level of accuracy far above that required for residential meters.
Harris’ main role will be to act as the communications interface between Landis+Gyr and the legislators and other stakeholders across Europe regarding the environmental and energy policy debate as it relates to smart metering – a subject gaining increasing attention in the minds of policymakers and energy utility executives.
