Silas Mzingeli Zimu, managing director of City Power, has agreed to do the inaugural address at the Smart Grids Africa event which will take place from July 28-30, 2008.

Zimu began his career an engineer with Eskom in 1992 and subsequently joined City Power as general manager: planning and technology, before being appointed to his current position in 2007. The value of assets under his control is R3 billion (US$383 million) and he manages a workforce of 1,900 people.

Zimu holds an Honours degree in Electrical Engineering from Brighton Polytechnic and a Master of Science in Engineering Management from Warwick University.
