In the US, Electrify America is partnering with SemaConnect, EV Connect and Greenlots to install more than 2,800 electric vehicle charging stations by June next year.
The level 2 EV charging stations will be installed at 500 sites including workplaces and residential premises in 17 metropolitan areas. 75% of the charging stations will be constructed at workplaces and the others in apartment buildings, condominiums and multi-family buildings.
The project will help Electrify America to reach its target to increase the number of EVs in the workplace. According to a statement, the availability of EV charging stations at workplaces increases the potential of a worker to drive an EV by six times compared to workers in workplaces with no charging stations.
The project is part of $2 billion in investments made by Electrify America to develop EV charging infrastructure and improve consumer awareness on EVs over the next decade.
SemaConnect, EV Connect and Greenlots will construct 35% of the chargers to be installed for home charging in California.
Mark McNabb, CEO of Electrify America, commented: “One of the biggest barriers to the mass-market adoption of electric vehicles is access to chargers.
“Having chargers where people work – and live – will help them see that an electric vehicle can be their primary vehicle because charging is convenient and reliable at the places where they spend time.”
EV charging Dubai
In the United Arab Emirates, the Dubai Electric and Water Authority will increase its number of EV charging stations to 200 by the end of 2018.
To date the utility has installed 100 EV charging stations and is set to begin the installation of another 100.
Saeed Mohammad Al Tayer, CEO of DEWA, said: “[The] Dubai Government has set the tariff for charging electric vehicles by Green Chargers at a cost price of 29 fils per kilowatt hour. This is a significant saving compared to fuel-powered cars.
“Due to these efforts, the electric car sector has grown by about 30% between 2014 and 2016.”
DEWA forecasts the number of EVs in its service territory to increase from 32,000 in 2020 to 42,000 in 2030.
