Handheld computers for Africa

Mali Energy has chosen DAP Technologies’ Microflex PC9800 handheld units to replace meter readers using pen and paper to collect data from its electricity and water meters. The application used on the handheld devices was developed by Dioptase – who, as a long-term partner of DAP Technologies – focuses on the energy utility market. The software allows each meter reader to access up-to-date information, detailing customer history and consumption records, which helps to improve customer relationships by providing timely and accurate statements.

The Microflex PC9800 addresses the challenges associated with operating in a harsh environment thanks to its ability to withstand extreme conditions; an extended battery life, and on-going and preventative maintenance options. Mali Energy will have access to real-time information, automatic authentication and user alarms to ensure consistent and reliable data, and fast downloading of data for time saving.
