KPLC to buy 400,000 new electricity meters

The Kenya Power and Lighting Company will buy 400,000 electricity meters over the next five years, as part of a transmission system reinforcement programme that will eventually lead to privatisation of the utility. Several international organisations have been short-listed to oversee KPLC’s restructuring and ultimate return to profitability.

The reinforcement programme is being funded by the World Bank and development partners to the tune of US$218 million.
