More meters for less

Accra, Ghana

Accra, Ghana — (METERING.COM) — July 25, 2006 – In a move to encourage growth and development in the Krachi East District in the Volta region of eastern Ghana, district chief executive Michael Dzatoh has announced that more than 1,000 electricity meters have been distributed at a substantially reduced cost.

With the support of the Ministry of Energy, the District Assembly reduced the cost to an affordable US$1 per meter, instead of the usual cost of about US$110.

Dzatoh explained that the move was intended primarily to enable residents to engage in other economic ventures through the establishment of rural industries, and thereby improve their standard of living.
