New smart home solution previewed at Metering Africa

Cape Town, South Africa — (METERING.COM) — May 31, 2007 –A new smart home solution is being previewed to participants at Metering, Billing/CRM Africa and African Utility Week in Cape Town, South Africa.

The product, which has been developed by Johannesburg-based energy management solution provider Enertech, comprises AMR-enabled pre- and/or postpay electricity and water meters, ripple control unit, and a communication-enabled central control unit with interactive display, providing two-way data exchange and control between the customer and utility.

Management is via a central management platform, enabling value added services such as telephony and web access, and tamper control enables partial or complete system shutdown in the event of tampering. In addition facilities such a security systems may also be integrated.

Eric Scorgie, CEO of Enertech, says the product provides a complete turnkey solution for energy management by both the utility and consumer.

Pilot deployments of the product are under way in Pretoria, Durban and Johannesburg and a rollout of about 10,000 systems is planned to all homes in three municipalities, Reitz, Lindley and Petrus Steyn, in the Free State province.
