Skanderborg, Denmark and Cape Town, South Africa — (METERING.COM) — March 2, 2011 – Danish meter company Kamstrup has entered into a partnership with the high-tech company Develco and several South African partners to develop a metering infrastructure and software for a smart metering system for South Africa.
The solution, which comprises smart meters and an automatic meter reading system for demand side management, will be presented for the first time at African Utility Week 2011 in Cape Town, South Africa from March 14-17.
The solution has been developed to address key issues faced in the region, including high level of losses, increasing demand for energy and rapidly increasing costs. Functionalities include a load profile function and tamper detection with alarms, which coupled with two-way communication will enable stabilization of the power supply, more accurate billing, and improved reaction to fraud.
“It is crucial to engage with competent local companies as local people know better how to ensure usability in the software programs, such as how to choose the right terminology,” commented Kamstrup sales manager Hans Peter Kyk. “We have been very lucky to set a good team and design a targeted solution for the South African market.”
The South African partners, which were selected with assistance from the Danish Embassy in South Africa, are energy consultants Livewire Engineering & Consulting (Pty) Ltd, the energy service company National Power Contractors, prepay meter specialist Metermate, and energy management company Power Measurement & Distribution c.c.
