Kaduna, Nigeria — (METERING.COM) — March 27, 2007 – The Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) has announced that installation of its first prepayment (pay-as-you-go) meters will begin the first week in April in Kaduna.
The meters are being introduced in an effort to reduce the number of customer complaints about matters such as over-billing, payments not being recorded correctly, and incorrect disconnections, as well as to assure a constant revenue stream for the utility.
The new prepayment meters are being supplied and installed by PHCN. As vending stations are limited at present, a small amount of credit has been built into the meters so that customers whose supply runs out over weekends or on public holidays will not find themselves without power.
Jacob Meduteni, Chief Executive Officer of PHCN in Kaduna, has warned consumers that any attempt to tamper with the new meters will result in prosecution.
