UK firm secures GBP10m smart meters deal in Iran


In a press statement, the UK headquartered metering company said it will provide the telecoms contractor with some 360,000 smart electricity meters under the GBP10m deal signed this week.

The smart meters to be installed for high value, high demand customers will be manufactured locally but integrated the metering firm’s Head End Software (HES) which will be hosted by Micromodje.

The delivery of the meters will start by the end of the current financial year to complete installation within two years.

Commenting on the signing of the contract,  Mr Goldouzian, managing director of Micromodje, said: “During the pilot deployment of the Cyan solution for smart metering of street traffic cameras last month, we were able to quickly confirm the quality of its solutions as well as the support Cyan provide to local implementation partners.”

The telecoms contractor said it also has begun a dialogue with the metering company for provision of another 1m smart electricity meters.

The meters are expected will contribute largely towards the country’s goals of installing 33m smart meters set by the National Smart Metering Program of Iran (FAHAM).

The programme is being funded by the Iran Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution Management Company (TAVANIR).

The deal included the supply of the company’s CyLec AMI consisting of RF modules, data concentrator units, head-end software licenses, software installation services and an annual software maintenance.

The 2,000 smart metering units where fitted into street traffic cameras in Iran.

Following an upfront payment of GBP50,000, the solution provider’s head-end software has been installed on a Micromodje server in Iran.

Mr Goldouzian said: “Cyan’s capability has been optimised for emerging regions, enabling these markets to address a number of challenges driven by rapid growth and the demand for energy.”
