Lagos, Nigeria — (METERING.COM) — April 2, 2007 – The World Bank has announced that it will spend $25 million on the installation of 125,000 pay-as-you-go, or prepayment, meters in the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria. Tenders are presently being examined, and the contracts will be awarded as soon as possible.
This initiative will increase the number of prepayment meters in the country – the PHCN (Power Holding Company of Nigeria) also announced recently that it will install these meters in other parts of the country.
The meters are being installed to maximize utility revenue and improve customer service by removing the need for estimated bills and incorrect handling of bill payments. The issue of revenue loss caused by tampering has also been addressed, and the new meters will be tamper-proof.
