AMR Meter Reading System for China

Holley Metering Ltd., based in China, is rolling out a new wireless AMR system to meet the needs of utilities serving the 70 million homes likely to be built in China over the next ten years. Based on ZigBee technology, the new AMR system creates self-forming, self-healing wireless mesh networks across neighbourhoods and apartment buildings that link meters with the utility’s corporate office for remote monitoring.

Holley Metering already offers a wireless AMR solution for C&I applications, which is too costly for widescale deployment in the residential field. The lower cost of standards-based ZigBee wireless networks is seen as the best way to meet China’s increasing residential metering demands. The company will start with a family of Ember-enabled electricity meters, with plans to develop gas and water meters later this year.
