Mumbai, India — (METERING.COM) — December 3, 2010 – The Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) has awarded its IT modernization project to IT provider Spanco Ltd.
The Rs160 crore (US$35.3 million) project is under the larger Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Program (R-APDRP), and is aimed to reduce the aggregated technical and commercial (AT&C) losses to 15 percent in the project areas.
Spanco will supply, install and commission an integrated solution to specifications developed under the guidance of Ministry of Power.
The project will work towards establishing reliable and automated systems for sustained collection of accurate baseline data, and the adoption of IT in the areas of metering, billing, energy accounting and customer care to provide the right information and experience to customers. This modernization of the IT systems will also help curb revenue leakages and ensure increase in overall revenues and thus contribution to the exchequer.

This is Spanco’s third consecutive win in this space, having already won contracts in the states of Punjab and Maharashtra, and the company has been declared lowest bidder in Goa.
