China prepares for conservation energy law

A drafting group has prepared a new energy law for China, with the aim of encouraging conservation in a country where energy consumption has grown dramatically in recent years, with resulting shortages in supply of increasing concern. The new law is expected to lay the foundation for the establishment of a cabinet energy department governing energy issues.

The office of the State Council Energy Leading Group, which is heading up the work of the drafting group, says that the law will focus on basic principles of energy saving, security, and energy trading with overseas partners.
