Curbing energy theft

Government of Manila
Manila, The Philippines — (METERING.COM) — November 26, 2007 – The city government of Manila has announced plans to reduce the amount of energy theft in its territory by introducing individual electricity meters in areas where poverty is widespread.

The theft of energy has long been a problem for the city, particularly among poorer communities, who are known to use methods of slowing down electricity meters that are both illegal and dangerous.

The city will also introduce water meters for the first time in specific areas, a move that has been welcomed. Mayor Alfredo S. Lim has undertaken to focus on improved quality of life for the poorer people living in Manila during his tenure.
