Singapore power line communications (PLC) company GridComm has entered into an agreement with smart meter manufacturer EDMI to collaborate on narrowband PLC modules.
Under the deal, GridComm will make GC-Net, a networking software that performs self-adaptive and auto-network routing configurations for noise-prone power line environments, available to EDMI’s PLC smart meters – such as DIN Rail MK30 and MK31E split meters.
Leu Yew Seng, general manager of EDMI’s International Business Unit, said: “GridComm brings together disruptive but cost-effective PLC solutions that work.
“Working with gridComm allows us to get to market quickly, which helps us shorten development and deployment time. This enables us to meet the demand for smart PLC metering systems as power grids migrate their networks to AMI implementation.”
Smart metering connections
EDMI’s collaboration with GridComm follows a tie-up with a UK software company earlier this year to mutually develop a gas module.
In April, UK embedded software company Abelon Systems worked with EDMI to develop a standalone communications and metering application platform for global metering markets.
In 2011, EDMI also partnered with UK company Sentec to jointly develop a smart gas meter, based on Sentec’s gas meter technology, Lattice.
